Lowsonford class

Year 6 children in Lowsonford Class completed their Key Stage 2 SATs yesterday. Throughout the week they faced the series of assessments with maturity, focus, application and determination; we were so proud of them all and know that each of them gave their very best. Congratulations Year 6!

Many thanks to Mrs White who organised special, surprise treats this afternoon, and also to every member of staff in school who supported the children by keeping morale high and stress levels low!

Honiley Class

A couple of weeks ago, we were lucky enough to have a session with All Stars Cricket! We had a brilliant morning learning lots of new skills to help improve our cricket skills. We all got to have a go at batting and fielding during the session.

HATTON CLASS

Hatton Class have had a great time using tools to get creative at Forest School. They used a technique called ‘Hapa Zome’ to create flags. This involves using a hammer or mallet to bash out the natural colours from leaves and flowers to create a design on fabric. They also made their own bracelets which took a great deal of resilience. Huge thanks to Mrs Lilley, our Forest School Leader, for providing such fantastic opportunities.

HASELEY Class

Year One have been very busy in their art lessons with Mrs Foss! This term the children have worked hard to create 3D Trees of Life. They have been developing different sculpting techniques to create 3D flowers, trees, animals and grass. We think they look beautiful. Great job Year 1!

Rowington Class

Year 3 have become geologists and had a go at making their own fossils using bread and jelly sweets. We piled the sweets in between layers of bread and then wrapped it in cling film. To symbolise thousands and thousands of years of pressure at the bottom of the ocean, we put the bread under a big pile of heavy books and left it for a week. We unwrapped it last week, and you should find us to ask what happened next!!

congratulations mrs Grier!

You may remember that a few weeks ago we welcomed a team from Primary Science Teaching Trust to Ferncumbe to look at our Science provision under the expert eye of Mrs Grier, who had been shortlisted for an award. Following the visit I was delighted to receive confirmation this week that Mrs Grier, despite strong competition, has been awarded the accolade of one of five National Primary Science Teachers of the year! We are all over the moon to think Mrs Grier’s achievements have been recognised nationally.

Snowboarding superstar!

We are very proud of Étienne who competed in The Brits Slopestyle Snowboarding Championships, at the Snowdome last weekend for the first time. Étienne performed a fantastic run to place a respectable 15th in the very competitive under 12 age category of almost 30 participants. Congratulations!

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend and a happy, peaceful and sunny half-term break to follow at the end of next week.

A reminder that school is holding an INSET day on Monday 3rd June. We look forward to welcoming children back to school on Tuesday 4th.
