Honiley Class

Age Related Expectations

Welcome to Honiley, our Year 2 Class! We are taught by Miss Blackwell.

We are very excited to continue our learning journey this Summer Term! I have included a curriculum document which outlines what we will be covering this term.

We will continue to promote high expectations in school and at home whilst also ensuring that the emotional and social wellbeing of your child is prioritised.

Many thanks for your support,

Miss Blackwell

Topic:

This term, our topic is Let’s All Go To Mexico! Below is a knowledge organiser which outlines what we will be learning and the vocabulary we will be using in class. It would be great if you could discuss this with your child.

Science:

During Summer Term, our next topic will be Living Things and Their Habitats.

Important things to remember:

PE will be taught on a Tuesday and we will also be swimming on Wednesday morning. Please ensure that your child comes into school wearing the appropriate kit on these days.

Your child must bring a named water bottle into school. This will then be sent home at the end of each day to be cleaned.

Reading

Reading should be seen as an enjoyable activity that can start questioning and discussion based on a text. In school, we will read daily and encourage a passion for reading. The children will also attend daily Read, Write, Inc. sessions that develop the children's knowledge of sounds, high frequency words and spelling patterns. It is also expected that children should read regularly at home choosing from a wide range of texts, both factual and fictional, including magazines and child friendly newspapers.

Homework

Year 2 children will continue to have maths homework set weekly, along with reading and spelling. They will also have creative homework to complete every other week. Please see below:

Home learning journals will be given out on Wednesday and are expected to be handed back into school the following Monday.

The children are expected to read daily from and return the signed reading record and reading books to school every day. The children will then change their book if needed for the week. The children can change their books more than once a week, depending on the book and level of enjoyment.

Recommended reading list:

It’s important for children to read as much as possible; to enjoy reading; to want to share what they have read with someone else and to challenge themselves to read different authors from different periods of time. In this way the children will build a rich vocabulary and greater understanding of the techniques authors use in their work to be able to apply this in their own writing. Have a look at our recently updated recommended reading list below!

If you would like to get more involved, to offer your expertise, skills or time in any way, we would be delighted to hear from you. In addition, if you would like to discuss anything further please feel free to come into school to see us.

Of course, our learning and progress is hugely supported by the people at home so we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year so far and are grateful for the support you will give going forwards.
