Age Related Expectations
Welcome to Rowington, Ferncumbe’s Year 3 Class!
We are taught by Miss Forbes. The children are now in Key Stage 2 and with this comes some exciting new challenges. We are sure that the children will all thrive on these new challenges. Throughout this school year, we will continue to promote high expectations for learning in school and at home. Whilst also prioritising children mental and physical well-being.

Each day your child will need to bring:
A named water bottle. This will be sent home each evening so a clean one can be sent in the following day.
Reading book and reading record. The children are expected to read in school and at home everyday and this be noted down in their reading record.
A coat - we will be encouraging the children to be outside as much as possible.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Homework:
As per usual, we will be alternating creative tasks with a literacy/grammar task each week. Mathletics will continue to be set each week along with daily reading. The homework will be set every Wednesday and is due to be returned the following Monday. Please see below for more information:
READING:
At this age, reading is of huge importance for your child and they should be encouraged to read for enjoyment daily. Whatever they read, whether it be a reading book from school or home, road signs to menus or shopping lists will help to improve your child’s spelling and vocabulary. Any reading undertaken should be recorded in their reading records, either by an adult, older sibling or by the child themselves. This reading record should then be returned to school each day.
At home, please continue supporting your child with their reading by encouraging them, sharing this time with them and discussing their views and opinions about the books.
In school, reading activities across the week will include: guided reading in small groups, individual reading and whole class shared reading. Children will have the opportunity to change their reading books during the week.
If you or your child have any questions during Year 3, please come and speak to one of the Year 3 team or make an appointment at the school office. We will always be happy to see you and support your child in any way we can.

Recommended reading list
It’s important for children to read as much as possible; to enjoy reading; to want to share what they have read with someone else and to challenge themselves to read different authors from different periods of time. In this way the children will build a rich vocabulary and greater understanding of the techniques authors use in their work to be able to apply this in their own writing.
