Ferncumbe Friday
Friday 15th September 2023
welcome back!
It has been an incredibly busy start to the new term and everyone has returned refreshed and ready to start another year of exciting learning. It is always lovely to hear how the children have enjoyed the summer holiday and are settling into their new classrooms.
We have also welcomed lots of new children and families to our school community for the very first time. Hatton Class have settled in incredibly well, are making a positive start and already clearly being made to feel very much part of the Ferncumbe Family.
We also extend a warm welcome to new pupils and parents in other year groups.
hATTON CLASS
Our new Reception children have had a super week. The children have settled quickly and have already started to make new friendships.
HASELEY CLASS
We’ve had a great time in in Year 1 over the last couple of weeks. It has been such a pleasure to get to know the children and get stuck into our learning. This week we have been exploring the story ‘Barry the Fish with Fingers’ by Sue Hendra. It only seemed right that we made and ate fish finger sandwiches in the classroom! We then wrote instructions on how to make them. Miss Constable is so impressed with our writing! What a great start to to the term Year 1!

Rowington Class
Rowington Class have had a great start to the term! We have mostly enjoyed getting to go to Forest Schools again. This week, we looked at the work of Andy Goldsworthy and used nature to create our own works of art. We explored some new vocabulary, including vibrant and abstract. Miss Morris and Mrs Lilley thought that we were exceptional. We cannot wait to see what else we get up to over the coming weeks this half term.

LOWSONFORD CLASS
It has been a pleasure teaching my new Lowsonford class over the last two weeks. They have made a fantastic start to their last year in primary school and are already doing a BRILLIANT job of being great role models to others around school. Not only have I noticed but many other adults in school have commented too. Following our discussion about the values that are important to us, they have decided that our three key words will be: Respect, Honesty and Maturity. They are embracing the challenging curriculum and I am looking forward to teaching them for the rest of the year.
Here are a few pictures of them playing team games on the first day.

‘MEET THE TEACHER’ PARENTS’ EVENING for years 1 - 6
On Wednesday 27th September 2023 there will be the chance to visit your child(ren)’s classroom(s) and listen to a presentation by teachers regarding important information for the academic year 2023-2024. There will be two slots from which to choose (5.30pm and 6.15pm), which will allow you to visit more than one year group as needed.
We do encourage you to attend and look forward to welcoming as many parents as possible. There will be lots of sharing of information, and the opportunity to ask questions.
Please note that Mrs Stephenson will hold an introductory meeting for new Reception parents on Monday 16th October at 5.30pm, so the above date does not apply to Reception parents.
our school vision
As always at the beginning of the academic year, classes spent time during the first week back in school revisiting and thinking about our School Vision and what it looks like in action.
Shrewley Class
After looking at the school vision, Year 4 worked together to create our class prayer. You can see from our prayer that our class values that we have chosen are loyalty, honesty and courage.
Year 4 have made a super start to the term and I am very much looking forward to our year together!
Miss Reid
Democracy in action
In our Wednesday assemblies, we will be exploring the British Values in depth. This week, we started by looking at democracy. Mrs Reid asked us to vote for how we would like to celebrate our achievements after our Friday assembly, and offered the choice of keeping tea and cake or changing to a lunch gathering instead. 66% of children voted to change to the ‘Luscious Lunch’ option and we had our very first one today! The children have their lunch at the same time and share a special treat, as well as a game or two as part of their reward with Mrs Reid.

A WARM WELCOME TO OUR NEW SENDCO
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Victoria Irvine to the Ferncumbe Family as our new SENCo.
‘Hello, I am Mrs Irvine and I am the new Special Educational Needs co-ordinator, SENDco, for The Ferncumbe CofE Primary School. I also work as a SENDco across 3 of the MATs other village Primary Schools. I have been teaching for over 10 years and qualified as a SENDco 6 years ago. I look forward to supporting and overseeing the provision for the children at this happy village School.
My days in School are all day Wednesday and Thursday morning. I have already popped into all the classes and introduced myself to the children, who are absolutely delightful.’

To help gather views, young people have developed some questions which they would love you to answer. - https://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolexp
Please let children and young people know the opportunity is available and offer to support them to record their views if they would benefit from this. The survey is open until October Half-term 2023
