geography focus week
Last week in school was our Geography focus week. Each class were given a geographical enquiry that they had to investigate together. It was great to see lots of learning outside the classroom and geography skills being used. Please do look at your child’s class Twitter page to see what they have been investigating.
Huge thanks and well done to those children who also completed their Geography creative homework. I have learnt lots of fun facts about countries from around the world. Some of the homework was also celebrated in assembly.

Hatton Class enjoyed exploring the question, ‘Where is the best place for a picnic?’ and what’s a picnic in the woods without a few teddy bears!
Year 2 investigated ‘How Can We Get to Forest School Safely?’ The children created tally charts to demonstrate how busy the road outside school gets. They have also written to the Councillor Oliver Jaques, the Mayor of Warwick, to ask for a zebra crossing outside school. Fingers crossed we hear from him soon!
Year 1 have tried to find out what wildlife our school grounds encourage. We found that our lovely garden attracts so many bugs and creatures, but we didn’t see very many bugs anywhere else on the school grounds. We wrote this letter together to see if we can get some donations of things to change this. Miss Forbes has begun sending this letter to some companies to see if they can help. If you think you can help, do let Miss Forbes know!
Year 6 had a great time visiting the canal and surveying people using the canal. They worked in small groups investigating different enquiry questions. It was lovely to be out using our local area!
Mrs White
Year 4 visited Hatton Country World to answer the enquiry question: What new shop is needed at Hatton Shopping Village? We surveyed members of the public and enjoyed drawing sketch maps, interpreting our data and drawing graphs when we returned to school. We found out that the most desirable new shops are farm shops, butchers and grocers and most people surveyed said that free parking would improve their shopping experience!
It was great to have a morning outdoors making use of our local area.

sports day and family picnic
We were so fortunate to have had beautifully sunny weather, at the end of an unsettled week, for our Sports Day and Ferncumbe Family picnic last Friday. It was a pleasure to welcome you all to an event which is always one of the highlights of the year.
Huge thanks to Mrs Eaves (our PE lead) and Mr Jones for coordinating the event so successfully.
HATTON CLASS
In the glorious sunshine at the end of last week, Hatton Class released our four beautiful butterflies. We thought about how much they had changed since we had met them as tiny caterpillars. We have loved observing each stage of the life cycle and watching them closely as they have transformed. Mrs Stephenson told us that we were like the butterflies, growing and transforming during our time in Hatton Class. We are nearly ready to fly off, into Year One; confident, brave and ready for our next adventure!
Mexican Chefs in Honiley Class
This term in Year 2, the children have been learning about Mexico! As part of their creative homework, they were asked to make Mexican meals. We think they look absolutely delicious! Well done Year 2 for being so helpful at home and sharing your learning with your family.

message from the friends of ferncumbe
On Friday 23rd June we hosted the hugely successful Ferncumbe-on-sea fête. This event took a lot of planning, especially since we hadn't held one for several years, but it was more than worth it to see how much fun the children had.
We are pleased to be able to share that we raised over £1400, which is a fantastic achievement!
A huge thank you to all the parent and staff helpers with the prep and on the day, we couldn't have run it without you all.
Also, thank you to octopus energy for donating so many octopus prizes, which were very popular!
We have some committee members stepping down at the end of the year, so please get in touch or come along to one of our pub meetings if you'd like to know more.
We look forward to hosting some more events next year!

With this being the final ‘Ferncumbe Friday’ newsletter of the academic year, and with the end of term not far away (we break up on Tuesday 25th July), I know that all staff will join me in wishing the whole Ferncumbe community a happy summer break. Pupils will start back at school for the Autumn Term on Tuesday 5th September.
Very best wishes for a lovely weekend.
