our ray of sunshine…

The love and support of the whole Ferncumbe community has come into its own this week as we all desperately try and come to terms with the tragic and sudden loss of Delilah from our lives. We understand that you, like us, will have all been deeply shocked by her passing and will want to join us in keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers.

Delilah’s infectious smile lit up the classrooms at Ferncumbe; she was such a bright and bubbly character. Delilah was loved by her friends and was doted on by all. Her contagious laugh and cheeky personality will be greatly missed, not only by her friends and teachers, but by all who were privileged to have known her. She was a sparkly ray of sunshine and that is just how she will be remembered.

Delilah will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched and will stay always as a very special member of our Ferncumbe Family.

Delilah’s older sister Darcey wanted to include the following words, which she wrote personally… ‘Delilah always had a smile on her face, even when she was in hospital. She was a ray of sunshine. My sister was feisty, independent and strong. Delilah loved school and even asked to go on weekends! I want people to remember her contagious laugh and how much we all loved her. She was one of a kind’.

After consultation with Delilah's family we have set up a school website page in celebration of Delilah's life, where messages, reflections and thoughts can be posted. If you would like to have your message posted please email ferncumbemessages@gmail.com and we will share it on the page dedicated to Delilah for you.

Messages will be posted here... https://www.ferncumbefamily.co.uk/memories

School is also happy to receive any cards and messages which children can post in the school post box, which we will then share with Delilah's family.

We will keep in contact about other things we will organise (this term and beyond) to keep Delilah's memory alive for us all and will be in touch about these as soon as we possibly can. I can already let you know that we will be holding a ‘Wear Yellow Day’ on the last day of term, Wednesday 31st March. We have also set up a ‘Just Giving’ page in aid of ‘The Children’s Liver Disease Foundation’, in memory of Delilah, to which you may wish to donate.

Sending love and prayers to the whole Ferncumbe community at this most challenging of times. Please do contact us if we can be of any further support to you.

world book day!

World Book Day on 4th March was embraced and celebrated by children and adults at home and in school with the usual Ferncumbe enthusiasm. Amongst many fabulous costumes, we were treated to a fierce Mrs Trunchball, a cheeky Pirate, Gangster Granny, a whole team of Harry Potters, Stickman, Unicorns, Where’s Wally?, Wonder Woman, Fantastic Mr Fox, a couple of Captain Americas and so so many more.

Children took part in live author readings, decorating potatoes and gingerbread men as favourite characters, book reviews, story telling through cartoon strips, book cover designing, creating book marks and of course not forgetting our very own Masked Readers! Did anyone guess who Penelope Pig was? And what about that cute dog who is going to live life being more cat?

A very big thank you to all of you for your commitment to taking part and making this year’s World Book Day as amazing as any other year!

At Ferncumbe, WE LOVE BOOKS!
