FOREST SCHOOL EASTER SERVICE
As the Spring Term draws to a close I thought I would share with you a few photos from our end of term Easter celebration at Forest School. Year 6 were extremely busy, along with Mrs Nicholls and her team of helpers, to prepare Stations of the Cross in advance of our Easter Service in the forest. Each imaginative station represented an image of Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion, and some members of Year 6 spoke eloquently and informatively about each depiction. Other Year 6 children helped to lead the service and, of course, the school sang their favourite Easter song, with actions! We were delighted that after such a wet morning the rain stopped for us, and we even saw a glimpse of the sun as the service started.
honiley violin concert
We are extremely proud of our music-making at Ferncumbe, and were reminded of that fact by Honiley Class last week. Anne Ransford from Warwickshire Music led Year 2 in an impressive concert in the school hall - it is hard to believe that they have only been learning to play the violin for less than two terms! It was an absolute pleasure to watch the children, listen to the performance and see the progress they have made with their newly acquired skills. All the children were extremely professional and a credit to themselves and the school. Many thanks for the tremendous support from friends and family, the children really welcomed such an appreciative audience.
Do watch out for letters coming out in the next term regarding the uptake of violin lessons next year. Please enquire at the school office with any questions.
primary science fair
On Tuesday 27th March, the ten winners from Ferncumbe's Science Week were invited to Warwick University to show their projects to a team of real scientists! While the judges toured the lecture theatre each pupil talked about their project in detail, with confidence and enthusiasm. Every pupil became a young scientist during judging and Ferncumbe pupils did themselves proud! Medals and certificates were awarded all round and Saranne and Etienne Black won third prize in their Key Stage category for an incredible project that explored our food, where it comes from and the air miles needed to deliver it. Over 120 pupils attended, so this was a great achievement. Mrs Grier would like to thank all the pupils, who were wonderfully behaved and represented Ferncumbe brilliantly.
WEAR GREEN, WHITE AND BLUE FOR BO DAY!
I would like to say a massive thank you to everybody for taking part in our dressing up for Bo day yesterday. All the children looked great in the green white and blue of the Sierra Leonean flag. With the money that everybody donated to dress up and a mini cake sale amongst the staff, we raised a grand total of £200! This makes a wonderful start to our efforts to raise funds for One World Link to enable our friends at our link schools in Bo to visit later in the year. We hope that this will happen to coincide with The Day of the African Child on 16th June.
Thank you!
Mr Bladon.
With best wishes for a lovely Easter break,
Tracey Webb, Deputy Headteacher
